Michelle Haughey (ADCRG)

Dance Teacher in Penicuik

Michelle’s passion for Irish dancing started at the age of 6 when she joined the Anne Reid school of Irish dancing in her then home town of Belfast and then, continued with the renowned Setanta School of Irish dancing when her family relocated to Edinburgh when she was 10 years of age. Michelle enjoyed a highly successful competitive career in both solos and ceili/figures winning an all Scotland solo title and becoming world champion as part of figure teams.
In 1996 Michelle decided to hang up her dancing shoes and gain her TCRG qualification and, set up her own school teaching in Edinburgh, Penicuik and Peebles. As a young school her first ceili teams entered for world championships gained 6th place and top Scottish ceili team. Later joined by her former pupil Judith Clyne TCRG & sister Laura Haughey TCRG.
The success of both solo dancers and ceili teams has continued. In 2008 Michelle gained her ADCRG qualification and has since adjudicated at many feisanna worldwide including the prestigious World Championships in Boston & All Ireland Championships and North American championships.
She also had the pleasure in helping train some of her own students become TCRG’s.  Some of the schools dancers have also gone on to perform in many Irish dancing shows worldwide to packed auditoriums.
Michelle, who has a daughter Aine, also works as a bookkeeper for Swanston Golf Club Ltd and is also a qualified fitness instructor and sports massage therapist.
